Add and Update Devices

Add a new device to the configuration grid by one of the following methods:

  • For devices that use the device-initiated communication protocol, select Action > Auto Registration Configuration in either device or profile view and use Maintenance Mode at the device to complete the registration and, optionally the configuration process. See Auto Registration Configuration for more information.
  • For any device, select New > Device in either device or profile view. Complete the information in the Create and Contacts panels.

To edit an existing device, click its name in device view. Edit the information in the Create and Contacts panels.

The Add/Update Device workspace consists of two panels requiring information:

The Create Device and Update Device panels request the following information for each device that is added or modified:

Field Description
Device ID* A 6-digit identifier for the device,
Device Name* Name assigned to the device.
Device Type* Select the appropriate device type from the drop-down list.
Description Description of the device.
Location Location of the device.
Enable Device Communication

When selected, the device is actively able to communicate with the server. When deselected, the device cannot communicate with the server.

Communication is either device-initiated or server-initiated, depending on the communication mode that is established by the assigned device communication settings building block.

Communication Type*

Select one of the following Communication Types:

Device IP Address (IPv4) — Version 4 of the Internet Protocol Address convention can only be used on networks that support IPv4 and on the device

Device IP Address (IPv6) — Version 6 of the Internet Protocol Address convention can only be used on networks that support IPv6 and on the device

Device Hostname The name of the device that is registered and stored in your Domain Name System (DNS) database.

To use this selection as an alternative to using an IP address, you must configure the device to use DNS (instead of an IP address).
Time Zone*

Select the Time Zone in which the device is located. Custom time zones are not allowed.

Select the Automatically adjust for daylight saving time check box to automatically adjust the device time to daylight saving time. This check box is only displayed and selected if the time zone selected uses daylight saving time.

Note: A device that has never been initialized uses the time zone offset for (GMT -5:00) Eastern Time and does not observe daylight saving time. When the device is initialized, time and date are adjusted appropriately for the established configuration.
Device Profile Specify a device profile to be assigned to the device.

From the Create Device panel, clicktap Create to create the device, Next to proceed to the Contacts page; or Cancel to exit and abandon the device creation.

From the Update Device panel, clicktap Update to update the device, Next to proceed to the Contacts page; or Cancel to exit and abandon your edits.

The Contacts panel requests the following information for each device that is added or modified:

Field Description
Name* Name of contact to which notifications for this tenant's devices should be sent.
Title* Job title of this contact.

The Contacts panel requests the following information.

Field Description
Email* Email to which notifications should be sent for this contact.
Home Phone Contact's home phone number
Work Phone Contact's work phone number
Mobile Phone Contact's mobile phone number
Custom Custom field

Edit or delete existing contacts by clicking tapping Edit or Delete.

Specify additional contacts byclicking tapping Add on the "Add contacts for this device" window. ClickTap Save to save the additional contact.

To add the device, click tap Create. To save your edits, click tap Update. Click Tap Cancel to exit and abandon your edits.
